The Pillars
These pillars were established to aid us in our goal that our residents are receiving an intentional, well-rounded educational experience outside the classroom. When we consider the question, “What do we hope our residents learn in their time living with us?” many specific things come to mind. These specific items or skills became our learning outcomes. In order to help us implement the teaching of these items in a meaningful way, they were sorted into four main categories, or the pillars of our model. This list is not all-inclusive of all possible items, but does provide some context and goals for the department’s programming efforts. The following charts provide general areas of focus, as well as specific learning outcomes for each pillar and at each level.

It is important to note that these pillars apply to all aspects of community building and development. This includes programming, of course, but also includes the other items identified as part of the Community Building Initiatives.
